14th June
Whether it's the warm nights or my imbalanced mental state, I am not sleeping well at the moment. Both are probably factors. I sweat a lot generally but even more so at the current point in time, while that the part of my brain that has taken to informing me that I am a useless piece of shit is still very much in operation. The upshot is that I am back on my depressive sleeping pattern from a couple of years ago. I've also taking to napping in the afternoon, which might be permissible were it not the fact that I sometimes don't wake up until the afternoon in the first place.
Anyway, I will shortly be off to Hoxton to celebrate the birthday of social butterfly Darren Maskell. I imagine that the great and good of London's alternative comedy scene will be there. Fingers crossed that there will be at least one mover there and possibly even a shaker. I travel armed with John Robins' "This Tornado Loves You" which has just been released via his Bandcamp page. I am yet to see Robins' comedy stylings live which is something I hope to correct at this year's Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
That's the other thing. Having spent all year telling myself I was going to save money by giving the world's biggest arts festival a miss this year, I have inevitably reneged. Will this year finally be the year I try a battered Mars bar? No. But frankly, who knows what else might happen?*
*I will see a total of around 28 shows, have an ill-advised slice of haggis pizza and be annoyed on a daily basis by some backpackers who seem to have no actual engagement with the festival itself. I will also internally question myself about why I haven't done an Edinburgh show yet for the fifth fringe in a row, vow to quit comedy, then not to quit, then quit again, then give it another year.
