7th October

Fairly productive day today. I went to a Job Centre recruitment session this morning and completed an application for a short term opportunity in the afternoon. As I hinted last week, I've had rather a turbulent relationship with the Job Centre but was impressed with the guys who came in to host it and did my best to make a positive impression. Hopefully it'll lead to an interview, but I'll have to wait and see.

Also, my sister came home from a year in Bogota today. I probably should have led with that at the top of the blog. I will admit to some apprehension about her living in what has historically been one of the world's more dangerous areas, but I'm pleased she's come back to live with us for a bit. She also brought back a pair of delightful gifts for me, a lovely winter hat and a USB drive shaped like Maggie Simpson, which suggests that the market for knock off Simpsons merchandise is alive and well. I have been given assurances that it won't burst into flames the moment I plug it into my laptop.

I accepted her request to watch the final of Great British Bake Off, with all of the tears, angst, cock ups and terrible jokes from Mel and Sue. Nadiya Hussain from Leeds deservedly triumphed having delivered the best results over the three challenges, culminating in a lemon drizzle wedding cake.

Also, Steve Bennett's Chortle review of Sunday's Weird Al Yankovic show is spot on. And much more eloquent than my blog on the subject. You can read it here.
