2016: The Wilderness Year

It's 4am and I can't sodding sleep. Not six hours ago I was complaining about being tired and I still can't sleep. Anyway, time for an announcement of sorts. If they'll have me and logistics permitting, I will be performing a stand-up show in Edinburgh and London in August 2016 entitled "The Wilderness Years". This is a concept I've had floating around my head for the past three years at least, but I've continued to put it off. No longer.

The time feels right, mainly because I now have a source of income that will allow me to take the inevitable financial hit that this venture ensures without completely ruining me. And the show will probably be about failure, unemployment and Winston Churchill. I'd rather not still be banging on about those subjects into my thirties.  My stage persona is largely that of a low status loser with everything conspiring against him. I would like to put that version of my act to bed with this show.

It's difficult to talk about it without necessarily knowing what it's going to be at this point. I think it's unlikely to be heavily driven in terms of a narrative but I hope it'll be structurally sound in a thematic sense at least. I am looking forward to exploring some ideas on stage that are either too long or not joke driven enough for the sort of sets I've performed in the recent past. I'm sure I'll be giving some more updates on here in time and probably begging for advice in an undignified manner.
