Weigh In: Week 12

Starting Weight : 25 stone, 13 pounds.   Previous Weight : 24 stone. 4.3 pounds. New Weight : 23 stone, 11.5 pounds. This Week's Loss : 6.8 pounds. Total Weight Loss : 2 stone, 1.5 pounds. OK, so I lied about the 'no more weigh ins' thing. But I feel that it's justified. I'm going to tell you all about how I lost weight using this one incredible trick, the trick being developing an illness that prevents you from eating for three days. I have questioned Fitbit's calorie calculating abilities before but probably should have guessed something was up when it informed me I had burned 5,750 in a day from a sedentary position. Anyway, two stone is two stone and I won't turn my nose up at it regardless of the circumstances. Doing a weigh in now also allows me to establish a 'last Saturday of the month' weigh in routine which I will continue for the foreseeable future.  I hope you're all keeping well. I would not say I'm coping super wel...

Weigh In: Weeks 10 and 11

Week 10 Starting Weight : 25 stone, 13 pounds.   Previous Weight : 24 stone. 3 pounds. New Weight : 24 stone, 5.9 pounds. This Week's Gain : 2.9 pounds. Total Weight Loss : 1 stone, 7.1 pounds. Week 11 Starting Weight : 25 stone, 13 pounds.   Previous Weight : 24 stone. 5.9 pounds. New Weight : 24 stone, 4.3 pounds. This Week's Loss : 1.6 pounds. Total Weight Loss : 1 stone, 8.7 pounds. 1.3 pounds heavier than I was a fortnight ago, I think we can all agree that that's a triumph. These statistics are very much for the completists and will be my last weight updates until we've returned to something approaching normalcy. When I said I would publish my weight every week I didn't factor in the possibility of a pandemic and subsequent population lockdown in the United Kingdom. Obviously I will continue to monitor the situation but for fairly obvious reasons, I cannot proceed as I would have liked to. I am hoping to put in place an exercis...

Weigh In: Week 9

Starting Weight : 25 stone, 13 pounds.   Previous Weight : 24 stone. 6.5 pounds. New Weight : 24 stone, 3 pounds. This Week's Loss : 3.5 pounds. Total Weight Loss : 1 stone, 10 pounds. It's good to have basically undone the previous week's damage, even if once again I am struggling to find an explanation. It was my birthday on Saturday and it was a little bit of an indulgent weekend on the food front so a negative outcome this week would not entirely surprise me but we'll see. I've basically accepted at this point that there will be fluctuations, but if I put more effort into moderating my intake rather than just saying that I'm going to do it, that would probably help. I've also taken a little break from the gym, which I feel has done me good, but I'm ready to get back into it now. I've just about recovered from what was a particularly busy weekend. I celebrated my birthday with three consecutive gigs in three consecutive nights, via ...

Weigh In: Week 8

Starting Weight : 25 stone, 13 pounds.   Previous Weight : 24 stone 2.6 pounds. New Weight : 24 stone. 6.5 pounds. This Week's Gain : 3.9 pounds. Total Weight Loss : 1 stone, 6.5 pounds. This appears to be the whole "catching up with me" thing that I mentioned in the last blog. It was difficult to look at the scales on Saturday and be anything other than massively dispirited. I knew that I'd eaten too much in the previous week as I succumbed to Pancake Day amongst other things, but this was still a shock. I've fallen back into the trap of thinking I can eat whatever I want if I compensate with additional exercise and that simply isn't true. I've also fallen into the trap of believing that my Fitbit might give a reading that is even vaguely accurate in terms of calories burned. Naive to say to least. Anyway, this is a wake up call. It seems clear to me that in the short term I need to focus on improving my diet and not on hitting the gym every...
